As we read & listen to English, we select Useful Language to learn to speak, write and also to understand English. Most of what is published here has its corresponding audio version on the Talking People podcast. You are welcome to create transcripts for me to record. I also appreciate it if you remind me of materials with no audios, or which can be improved. Have a lovely day!
One of the keys to meaningful & effective learning is how we relate to our mistakes. Fear & complexes are obstacles that need to be overcome for a number of very important & interrelated reasons. Working with Lists of Mistakes will help you have a positive approach to your errors & mistakes, like creative people do in the arts & science! Read about this in my publications & find examples in this section
Grammar, this is, morphology & syntax, is learned as we listen & read, not only filling in gaps in textbook exercises, so that is why wihtout listening to the language it is unlike you learn good English, regardless other study. This is why we work with Useful Language & Listening so much! Functional Grammar is about NOTICING what we use the language for, its "language functions." This approach is much better to learn how to use the different language items grammars present, so pay attention to the question, both in your textbooks & in all you listen to and read!
English is spoken all over the world, as a mother language, a co-official language or a second language, not only as a foreign language. In the previous cases, we speak of varieties of English, because each community develops its own words, accents, spellings, and ways, particularly in informal contexts. Learn a bit about standards by nationality.
