Reporting on a Car Accident
by Montserrat García Guerrero (Avanzado 2, 2008-09)

The aim of this report is to describe the car accident I witnessed two days ago when I was driving along a winding road in Galicia. The report provides a description of the facts and of the people involved.

The accident

It was seven in a misty morning. The road, covered by wet leaves, hugs the coast, near the cliffs, so drivers were being cautious. A Ford Fiesta was in front of me. All of a sudden I could see that it skidded, bumped into the crash barrier and tumbled down a cliff. The car went into a spin and bounced off at least one tree. Then, there was a massive bang, the doors flew open and all the glass smashed.

The impact catapulted the passengers from their seats, and they landed on bushes or rocks.

The people involved

There were two passengers in the Ford Fiesta. One of them was an inexperienced driver, Francesca, eighteen, and the other was her seventeen-year friend, Cora, who was sitting in the front sear. Neither of them was wearing their seat belt.

The personal injuries

Witnesses called the police. An ambulance came to the place of the accident and firefighters as well. The girls shouted and cried, but they were alive. Fortunately, the rescue was fast. Francesca had a bruise and Coral had a broken wrist. A panic attack aside, they were both fine.

The car damages

The car was winched by firefighters, although it was a complete write-off. If you looked over the cliff you would wonder how on earth the passengers of the Fiesta got out.

The car traffic was restored as soon as the road was swept.
