"Summertime" (1935, in Act 1 of Porgy and Bess) is a song from the opera Porgy and Bess, with music by George Gershwin, libretto and lyrics by Ira Gershwin and DuBose Heyward, and based on the novel Porgy by Dorothy Heyward. All three works deal with African American life in the fictitious Catfish Row in Charleston, South Carolina, in the early 1930s. ("I loves you Porgy", here on TP sung by Nina Simone, is also a song from this opera.) Some info on the song. Listing of all the versions
