"I've got my period," "I'm on my menses..." These common expressions sound boring as compared to the zillions of expressions people use in their daily lives to refer to menstruation, like "I'm having my very own personal St. Valentine's Day Massacre!". Here are some more... Enjoy!

"I was reading the code words that people use menstruation and wanted to contribute some that I did not see there. The first one is gross and came an old high school friend of mine. He loved to say outrageous things just to get us girls mad. He called menstruating 'Making vampire tea bags.' It is gross, but being a slightly morbid girl I thought it was clever. My favorite one that I use is the 'Red Red Krovvy,' which is the slang that is used to refer blood from the book/movie 'A Clockwork Orange.' You can say it (3 words) people and they are unlikely to know what you mean unless they have seen the film or read the book. I am 28 years old and look at menstruation an important part of womanhood. A couple of other ones that I have heard that I liked were ' the red tent,' which I believe comes a book called 'The Red Tent,' and ' the house the Moon,' which also comes a book the same name. Another one that I really like is 'Water life.' Wiccans believe that a woman's magical and psychic abilities are highest when she is menstruating, and they refer menstrual fluid the water of life. Thanks having such a great site menstruation." (May 2002)
