I Remember When I Met...
by Antonio Bengoechea García (2008-09, 3º B [NI2-B])

I REMEMBER WHEN I MET that mysterious man. I was on the Trans-Siberian Express, sitting in my comfortable first-class seat, looking through the window, when he got on the train in one of the Russia stops.

He was older than me, good-looking, he wore an elegant dark suit. We started to talk, I don’t remember why, but the talk was easy. He had an extravagant accent which made him very interesting.

After half an hour of good chat, he asked me about playing a game of chess. I had been a very good chess player at University but I hadn’t played in the last three years. However, I accepted the offer and we went to the dining car where we could have a drink during the game.

Before starting we decided to do a deal, the winner of the game could ask to the other what ever he wanted. My mysterious partner had his own chess set, the pieces of which were made of bronze.

After two brandies my partner started to talk about the Second War World and what he had been doing as a double agent in that time.

It was very interesting but, unfortunately, I was beaten and I couldn’t even ask him his name.
